I was delighted to be invited by George Gunn to speak about 'the creative use of stone in landscape design' at his Northstone 58 Stonefest on the most northerly tip of mainland Scotland. George Gunn has been a mastercraftsman of The Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain for many years and has attended many stone festivals here in Ireland. He could not believe that with the UK's rich dry stone heritage, and well established association that they did not have any similar festivals in the UK. So his solution was to create his own festival on the most northerly point of mainland Scotland.
A wonderful weekend was had. Well done to George and Sue for putting on such a great festival.
Find out more about this festival on their website https://ns58.org/ As well as walling in some beautiful locations, we also got to tour some amazing stone heritage sites and walls as well as some beautiful Scottish countryside.
Thanks also to Nick Aitken for driving me back to Inverness to catch my flight (by the skin of my teeth) And for showing me some Scottish Brochs along the way. And to top it off we also got to see a rare Scottish Black Adder Snake.
