In June of 2018, saw me return to Austria's main wine region for the wonderful Stein und Wein event in Langenlois, Austria.
This years festival was around the theme of star gazing through glass and stone.
As well as learning the craft of pebble mosaic participants were also invited to learn the craft of Dry Stone Construction and take part in the building of a corbelled dry stone structure within the famous vineyards.
While the corbelled dry stone structure was being built with in the historic vineyards on the edge of town, I instructed students in cobble mosaics with in the grounds of the landscaping college where the Stein und Wein event is based.
Using cobbles from the famous river Danube that flows close to Langenlois, over the course of a few days students created a large mosaic cobble patio, featuring star constellations and spiraling galaxies.
Back in the vineyards, under the guidance of a great crew of wallers from Ireland, Austria, Canada and Germany, a wonderful corbeled dry stone structure was built.
